Compiler

Available Devices

Displays names of available devices for the device family selected in the Family list in the Device page of the Settings dialog box. If you select Specific device selected in 'Available devices' list under Target device in the Device page, you must select, in the Available devices list, the device you want the Compiler to use. If you select Auto device selected by the Compiler from the 'Available devices' list under Target device, the Compiler chooses the most appropriate device for the design from the Available devices list. Selecting a device in the Available devices list automatically selects Specific device selected in 'Available devices' list under Target device.

Under Show in 'Available devices' list in the Device page, you can use a filter to specify which devices in a family are listed in the Available devices list.

A device name in the Available devices list that is followed by the statement (not installed) indicates that the device is supported in the Quartus® II software, but support for the device is not installed in your copy of the software. To use this device, you must first install support for it. Contact Altera® Applications or go to the Quartus II support web site for more information.

A device name in the Available devices list that is followed by the statement (Advanced) indicates that, because the device will be released in the near future, the Quartus II software provides compilation, simulation, and timing analysis support for the device. The statement also indicates that the Compiler does not generate programming files for the device.

If you specify an ACEX® 1K, APEX 20K, APEX II, ARM®-based Excalibur, Cyclone, FLEX 10KE, Mercury, Stratix, or Stratix GX device for compilation, the Compiler has only one level of effort when optimizing timing, and therefore the Optimize timing list under Timing-driven compilation is dimmed to indicate that it is not available.

If you specify a FLEX® 6000 device for compilation, the Optimize I/O cell register placement for timing option under Timing-driven compilation in the Fitting page in the Settings dialog box (Assignments menu) is dimmed to indicate that it is not available.

If you specify a MAX® 3000 or MAX 7000 device for compilation, the options under Timing-driven compilation are dimmed to indicate that they are not available.
