Overview: Arranging Windows

In the Quartus® II software, to customize the workspace, you can control the placement and size of the Quartus II window, as well as all active windows, and all dockable windows. For example, you can manipulate the Quartus II window with the commands in the Application Control menu. You can also manipulate windows in the Quartus II software with the commands in the Document Control menu. When multiple windows are open, you can control these windows with the commands in the Window menu. Finally, you can manipulate dockable windows in the Quartus II software with the commands in a right button pop-up menu.

In addition, you can expand the active file window to fill the screen by choosing Full Screen (View menu).

When you want to control multiple windows in the Quartus II software, you can use the commands in the Window menu:

Manipulating Dockable Windows Within the Quartus II Software

You can open all dockable windows available in the Quartus II software from the View menu. You can control the placement of a dockable window by choosing commands from a right button pop-up menu, which you can access by pressing the right mouse button anywhere on the dockable window, except its title bar. For example, you can dock a dockable window by turning on Enable Docking (right button pop-up menu), selecting the title bar, then dragging the window to any of the four borders of the Quartus II window. You can float a dockable window and have it behave like any other open document window in the Quartus II software by turning on Restrict to Main Window (right button pop-up menu). You can also hide a dockable window by choosing Close (right button pop-up menu).

Finally, there are two ways you can control the size of dockable windows. First, you can expand or contract a dockable window by clicking Expand docked window or Contract docked window, which are buttons located near the upper-left or upper-right corner of the dockable window. Second, you can change the horizontal or vertical size of a dockable window using its window splitters. Specifically, you can point the mouse to the border of a dockable window until the mouse pointer becomes a sizing arrow, then select the splitter bar and drag it until the window is the desired size.
