Floorplan Editor

Overview: Using the Regions Window

The Regions Window command (View menu) allows you to demote assignments by dragging and dropping assignments to various regions in the Regions Window. The following regions may be listed in the Regions window: chip, anywhere on device, ESB rows, MegaLAB rows, Excalibur regions, MegaLAB columns, sections, fast regions, MegaLAB row halves, and MegaLAB column halves. The Regions window contents may vary depending on the selected device. The Regions window is not available for Cyclone, Stratix, or Stratix GX devices. Custom regions are not displayed in the Regions window and LogicLock regions are listed separately in the LogicLock Regions window.

You can drag and drop nodes from the following places to regions in the Regions window:

Dragging and dropping a node from the Floorplan Editor to a region in the Regions window allows the Compiler to choose the best logic cell within the chip, row, column, or section to implement the logic during the next compilation, thus giving the Compiler more freedom in arranging assignments for greater efficiency.
