Assignments

Overview: Using Custom Regions

A custom region is a type of location assignment. You can define any arbitrary rectangular region of physical resources on the target device as a custom region. Assigning nodes or entities to a custom region directs the Compiler place those nodes or entities inside the region during fitting.

You can define a custom region and assign nodes or entities to it by drawing it in the Current Assignments floorplan or by using the Define Custom Region dialog box, which is available from the Locations assignment category on the By Node tab of the Assignment Organizer dialog box.

A custom region exists in a project only as long as there are nodes or entities assigned to it. If no nodes or entities are assigned to a custom region, information about the region is not saved when you close the project.

Custom regions are currently supported for ACEX® 1K, APEX 20K, APEX II, ARM®-based Excalibur, Cyclone, FLEX 10KE, Mercury, Stratix, and Stratix GX devices.
