The EP2A15, a member of the APEX II device family, provides 16,640 logic elements; 17,120 registers; 425,984 memory bits; and 600,000 typical gates. It includes 36 input and 36 output True-LVDS channels for LVDS, LVPECL, HyperTransport, and 3.3-V PCML I/O standard support, and 56 input and 56 output Flexible-LVDS channels for LVDS, LVPECL, and HyperTransport I/O standard support.
APEX II devices are suitable for memory functions and complex logic functions such as digital signal processing, wide data-path manipulation, data transformation, and microcontrollers. The high-pin-count EP2A15 device contains an embedded structure to implement memory functions and a logic array to implement general logic functions. You can integrate entire systems, including 32-bit buses, into a single EP2A15 device. The EP2A15 device meets the low-voltage requirements of 1.8-V applications and supports multiple low-voltage I/O standards, including differential I/O standards.
The EP2A15 is available in 672-pin FineLine BGA® packages with 480 I/O pins and 724-pin BGA packages with 480 I/O pins (see Note (11)). The device's 16,640 logic elements are grouped into 104 MegaLAB structures, each of which consists of 16 LABs and one Embedded System Block (ESB). These MegaLAB structures are arranged into 26 rows and 4 columns. The embedded structure consists of 104 ESBs, each of which provides 4,096 programmable bits and can be split and used as two 2,048-bit single-port RAMs. The ESBs can be configured as product-term logic or various types of memory, including bidirectional dual-port RAM, dual- and single-port RAM, ROM, content-addressable memory (CAM), and FIFO buffers.
Each I/O element contains a bidirectional I/O buffer and six registers: two input, two output, and two output enable. The input registers provide fast setup times, the output registers provide fast clock-to-output times, and the output enable (OE) registers provide fast clock-to-output enable times. The EP2A15 also contains eight dedicated clock pins and four dedicated fast I/O pins for synchronous control signals with large fan-outs. In addition, the EP2A15 contains General-Purpose PLLs (GPLLs) for ClockLock®, ClockBoost®, and ClockShift PLL support.
The EP2A15 also supports ICR and JTAG BST. The EP2A15 JTAG Instruction Register length is 10; the Boundary-Scan Register length is 1478; and the JTAG ID code is 0C4000DD.
