Specifies the optional tasks that can be performed when the Programmer is in operation.
Except for Program/Configure, these options apply only to configuration devices, MAX® 3000 devices, and MAX 7000 devices in JTAG mode and, except for Security Bit, to EPCS1 and EPCS4 serial configuration devices in Active Serial Programming mode. If an SRAM-based device, such as an APEX 20K device, is added to a JTAG chain, these options (except for Program/Configure) are dimmed in the programming list in the Programmer window to indicate that they are not available. In Passive Serial mode, although all programming options disappear from the Programmer window, clicking Start will still configure devices. |
Program/Configure | Programs data loaded from one or more programming files or an examined device onto one or more blank (or erased) devices. |
Verify | Verifies the contents of a programmed device against programming data loaded from a programming file or an examined device. |
Blank-Check | Examines one or more devices to ensure that each is blank or completely erased. |
Examine | Loads the programming data from a device into a temporary data buffer. This option is mutually exclusive of all other options for that device. When this option is turned on, the other options are dimmed to indicate they are not available. All programming data must be saved before the Chain Description File (.cdf) can be saved. Save programming data for examined devices by selecting the device and choosing Save File (right button pop-up menu). |
Security Bit | Prevents a device from being examined and inadvertently reprogrammed. This option is available for MAX 3000 and MAX 7000 devices only. |
The programming sequence for these options is always as follows: Blank-Check (if selected), Program/Configure (if selected), and then Verify (if selected). If you select Program/Configure as one of the actions to be performed for configuration devices, MAX 3000 devices, or MAX 7000 devices in JTAG mode, the Programmer automatically erases the devices before commencing the selected programming actions.
