Setting up a project in the Mentor Graphics^® LeonardoSpectrum^™ software includes starting the software, reading in the Verilog HDL and VHDL design files, and assigning a device. To set up a project in the LeonardoSpectrum software:

1. If you have not already done so, perform 2. Create a Design for Use with the LeonardoSpectrum Software.

2. Start the LeonardoSpectrum software.

3. To read VHDL or Verilog HDL files into the LeonardoSpectrum software:

   1. Click the Input tab.

   2. Under Working Directory, specify the working directory or click Browse to select it.

   3. Under Open files, click the icon to specify the list of VHDL or Verilog HDL files.  More Details

   If you are performing timing closure, and have already compiled the design in the Quartus® II software, select the <design name>.vqo (a Verilog Quartus® Mapping File (.vqm) with a .vqo extension) and a Standard Delay Format Output File (.sdo), generated by the Quartus II software and placed in the \<project name>\resynthesis\mentor directory.

   4. Under Encoding Style, select the appropriate state machine encoding style.  More Details

   5. If you are using the LeonardoSpectrum non-OEM software and you want to analyze and elaborate the VHDL or Verilog HDL files:

      1. At the bottom of the Input tab, click the Elaborate tab.

      2. If necessary, specify the appropriate settings.

   6. At the bottom of the Input tab, click the Input Files tab.

   7. Click Read.

4. To assign a device in the LeonardoSpectrum software:

   1. Click the Technology tab.

   2. If necessary, at the bottom of the Technology tab, click the Technology Settings tab.

   3. In the FPGA folder, click the + icon to expand the Altera^® folder.

   4. Under Altera, select the appropriate Altera device family.

   5. In the Device list, select the appropriate device name.

   6. In the Speed list, select the appropriate speed grade.

   7. If necessary and depending on the device selected, you can specify any of the following options:

      • Turn on Map IO Registers

      • Specify the Wire Load

      • Turn on Implement RAM in ESB

5. To specify advanced settings for the selected device:

   1. At the bottom of the Technology tab, click the Advanced Settings tab.

   2. In the Max Fanout box, type the appropriate value.  More Details

   3. If necessary, specify the appropriate settings.

6. To save the project:

   1. Choose Save Project (File menu). The Save Project dialog box appears.

   2. Enter a project name in the File name box.

   3. Click Save.

7. To continue with the LeonardoSpectrum design flow, proceed to 4. Assign Design Constraints with the LeonardoSpectrum Software.
