More Details About Running This Tool Automatically After Compilation

When you turn on Run this tool automatically after compilation, the tool is run from within the Quartus II software using the default settings. The tool then processes the Quartus II–generated VHDL Output File (.vho) or Verilog Output File (.vo). You must turn this option on if you want to specify advanced simulation options. You can turn this option off if you do not want to run this script automatically or if you want to specify different settings.

If you do not want to run the tool automatically after compilation, but would like to run it from within the Quartus II software later, for example, after specifying different settings, you can use the Run Simulation Tool command (Tools menu).

To use this option on UNIX workstations, make sure you define the environment variables QUARTUS_INIT_PATH and QUARTUS_INIT_LIBPATH in your .cshrc file. The QUARTUS_INIT_PATH variable specifies the path(s) of the EDA tools to be launched from within the Quartus II software. The QUARTUS_INIT_LIBPATH variable specifies the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable needed by some EDA tools. You should set this variable to the EDA tool's library path if the EDA tool requires an LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable.
