You can reserve a pin for future use by using either the Assignment Organizer dialog box (Assignment menu), or the Assign Pins dialog box, which is available from the Device page in the Settings dialog box (Assignments menu), to assign a pin number to an INPUT
primitive or port that is not connected to other logic. In contrast, pins that are reserved by assigning an unconnected INPUT
pin are tri-stated on the device and are identified with the pin name in the Pin File section (Compilation Report). These reserved pins should be connected to VCC
, GND
, or a signal to prevent noise from "floating" pins.
After you reserve a pin, the Setting column, which is in the Existing assignments list in the By Category tab of the Assignment Organizer dialog box, shows the pin number.
