Add File to Current Project/Create New Project Based on This File

Adds the file to the current project if it has not already been added. Alternatively, if there is no current project (that is, a project open in the Quartus® II software), this option creates a new project based on the file you want to save.

If a project is currently open when you choose Save (File menu) for an unnamed file, or Save As (File menu) for a named or unnamed file, the option displays as Add file to current project. However, if no project is open, the option displays as Create new project based on this file.

In the Open dialog box (File menu), the default state for Add file to current project is off. When you choose Open, and there is no current project, Add file to current project is dimmed to indicate that it is not available. In the Save As dialog box (File menu), the default state for the option is on.

If you choose Save (File menu) for an unnamed file, or Save As (File menu) for a named or unnamed file, but there is no current project, you can save the file without creating a new project by turning off Create new project based on this file.

However, if Create new project based on this file is turned on and you click Save, the Quartus II software asks whether you want to create a new project with this file. Click Yes to open the New Project wizard, No to save the file without creating a new project, or Cancel to return to the Save As dialog box.
