Using Quartus II Help Effectively


Quartus® II Help provides comprehensive, platform-independent documentation for Quartus II software, more details about specific messages, and the online tutorial. This Help topic tells you how to get the most out of Quartus II Help.

Viewing Quartus II Help

You can view Quartus II Help in one of six ways:

The Index lists all topics in Quartus II Help; the Contents outlines the design flow and does not list all the topics in Quartus II Help. The Search finds a maximum of 500 topics containing the search keyword. The Messages list offers detailed Help on each message.

Using the Quartus II Online Tutorial

To start the tutorial:

  1. Choose Tutorial (Help menu).

  2. Follow the directions in the Introduction to learn about the basic features of the Quartus II programmable logic development system and to create and process your own logic designs.

Using the Search

To find topics with adjacent keywords, type the keywords in double quotation marks. For example, "this and that" finds topics that contain the exact phrase "this and that".

To find topics that contain the keywords, type the keywords without double quotation marks. For example, this and that finds topics that contain any combination of the words "this", "and", and "that".

You can also use the logical operators AND, NOT, and OR to refine your search. Searches are not case sensitive.

Finding a Keyword in a Topic

To search for a keyword in an open Quartus II Help topic:

  1. To open the Find dialog box, press Ctrl + F.

  2. In the Find what box, type the search text.

  3. If necessary, turn on one or more of the following options:

  4. In the Direction list, select a search direction.

  5. Click Find Next.

  6. If necessary, click Find Next again to find the next instance of the search text.

  7. To end the search, click Cancel.

Opening the Glossary

To open a glossary term from the Quartus II application:

  1. Choose Glossary (Help menu).

    or

    Choose Contents (Help menu), and select Glossary List from the end of the Contents.

  2. Follow the directions in the Glossary.

Opening the Messages List

To open the messages list:

Checkmark Choose Messages (Help menu).


Printing Help Topics

To print the main Help topics about a specific area in Quartus II, you can print all the topics in a folder in the Contents.


To view Help on a specific message:

Checkmark Get Help on a message.
