The Compile Current File command (Processing menu) is available only when a Quartus® II project is open and a software source file is open and selected.

Directs the Software Builder to use a software toolset assembler to compile the selected Assembly File (.s, .asm), or a software toolset C/C++ compiler to compile the selected C Source File (.c) or C++ Source File (.cpp) to check the files for errors. The Software Builder uses the assembler or C/C++ compiler of the software toolset you select in the Software toolset list in the CPU page of the Settings dialog box (Constraints menu).
