The Dalton project is named after the chemist John Dalton (died 1844), whose work eventually led to the Periodic Table of Elements. The project was named for him because in the same way that all matter is made up of basic elements, tomorrows systems may be made up of basic IP (cores).
(That he was homeschooled also helped in the decision).
