Packet Switching

• Used by computer networks

• Message divided into packets

  • consists of Header and data
  • Each packet sent independently through the network

• Each node stores the entire packet before passing on to next node

  • Can require considerable storage resources at each node

• Latency is: L = P/B *D

• L is latency, P is packet length, B is channel bandwidth, D is the distance.
