When you press Ctrl while dragging an item, a copy of the text is created in the file, but not placed on the Clipboard.
Once you begin dragging an item, you can release Ctrl and still copy and paste the item.
You can also press Ctrl after you start dragging a selection to change a move operation into a copy and paste operation.
