An ASCII text file in the Extensible Markup Language format, developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). XML is a markup language used to describe data, and enables the definition, transmission, validation, and interpretation of data between applications.

The Quartus^® II software uses the XML format to describe data in the following file types:

• Conversion Setup File (.cof)
• IBIS model input files
• PartMiner edaXML-Format File (.xml)
• SignalTap^® II File (.stp)
