wildcard characters

Characters used to represent one or more characters of a node or group name. You can use wildcard characters to find a node with the Node Finder, or to create a timing assignment with the Assignment Organizer dialog box (Assignment menu).

You can type one or more of the following wildcard characters in the Name box in the By Node tab of the Assignment Organizer dialog box (Assignment menu), or in the Named list of the Node Finder, to represent one or more characters of the node name(s) you want to assign in a timing assignment.

Character Description
* Denotes zero or more characters. For example, foo* denotes all nodes with names beginning with "foo" followed by zero or more characters. If you type foo* in the Name box, the assignment is made to all nodes with names beginning with "foo" for which the assignment is legal. If you type only an asterisk (*), the assignment is made to all nodes for which the assignment is legal.
? Denotes a single character. For example, f? denotes only nodes with names beginning with the letter f that are followed by any two other characters. If you type f? in the Name box, the assignment is made only to all nodes with names beginning with the letter "f" that are followed by any one other character.

NOTE Wildcard characters are legal assignment characters only in timing assignments.
