Assembler

The Compiler module that completes project processing by converting the Fitter's device, logic cell, and pin assignments into a programming image for the device, in the form of one or more Programmer Object Files (.pof), SRAM Object Files (.sof), Hexadecimal (Intel-Format) Output Files (.hexout), Tabular Text Files (.ttf), and Raw Binary Files (.rbf).

The POFs and SOFs can then be processed by the Quartus® II Programmer and the MasterBlaster, ByteBlasterMV, or ByteBlaster II download cable, or the Altera® Programming Unit (APU) to produce working devices. HEXOUT files, TTFs, and RBFs can be used by other programming hardware manufacturers that provide programming support for Altera devices.

The Assembler can run repeatedly during compilation to generate each programming file. Programming files are not created until a project compiles without errors.

The Messages window and the Messages section of the Report window or Report File displays any messages the Assembler generates. The Status window and the Processing Time section of the Report window or Report Files record the time spent processing in the Assembler during project compilation.
