The ProASIC Flash cell is based on a patented technology that incorporates a number of components which give it  small size. The switch is comprised of a memory cell and a NMOS transistor that is controlled by a floating gate.

Since the cell is very small in size, we can achieve small die size with still many routing resources , less power than an SRAM cell as seen in the figure showing the ProASIC switch has a 7:1 advantage over the SRAM cell. The key differentiator is the non-volatility of the cell, thus eliminating the need for a boot device and giving the designer the advantage of live at power-up.
